Baptism

Can I or my child be baptised at Holy Trinity?

We welcome and affirm all enquiries concerning Holy Baptism. Anyone can be baptised at Holy Trinity church if they meet one of the following requirements:

  • You are resident in the parish of Orton Longueville
  • You are a regular worshipper at Holy Trinity church
  • You are the child of a couple married at Holy Trinity church
  • There is a strong connection with the parish church

What is a baptism service?

When a new baby arrives, families and friends want to celebrate. They want to join in saying “thank-you” for the miracle of new life.

A Baptism Service – often called a “Christening”- caters for all this. It also includes promises about following Jesus as teacher and Lord, accepting him as saviour and discovering him as a friend. It reminds us that all baptised people belong to the Church – the family of God.

A baptism is a very important occasion involving serious decisions. As parents, you have to say that you will help your child “walk in the way of Christ” and “take their place within the life and worship of Christ’s Church”. You will have to answer questions on the child’s behalf, stating that you have decided to turn away from everything which is evil or sinful, and turn instead towards Christ. At Holy Trinity we are delighted that you wish to have your child baptised, but equally we will stand alongside you and help you make these promises.

When do Baptisms take place?

Baptisms take place at three different occasions

  • 12.00 noon on Sundays (2nd, 3rd & 4th Sundays of the month)
  • Upon request, during the main 10.15am service of Holy Communion. One Sunday each month is reserved for this. We can baptise children from only one family at this service.
  • For reasons of pastoral necessity, at another time mutually convenient for both family and the parish priest.

What do I need to do?

All we ask you is that both parents attend a Sunday morning service, (preferably the 11am All-age service on the first Sunday of each month) during the month of the baptism.
