Remembrance Sunday 2009
"...and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares
, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any
more;...."
We prayed for the forces of the crown; those on active service; the wounded; all who
suffer through war; for peace in the world; for preservation against aggresion and for our enemies.

Colour parties
from the uniformed organisations then proudly led the congregation out into the churchyard and across to the Orton
Longueville village War Memorial.

"They shall not grow old, as we are left
grow old; age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn."
"At the going down of the sun and in the
morning, we will remember them."
At 11 o'clock we observed a two-minute silence.
"When
you go home tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow we gave our today."
We listened to the roll-call of servicemen
from the village who were killed in the First and Second World Wars recorded on the War Memorial.
White Doves were released as a sign of peace.
