Men's Society ~ 2008

Here are some of the events that we enjoyed in 2008:-

In June the Rev Ian Houghton (the City Chaplain for Peterborough) gave a fascinating talk on the historical background to Peterborough and linked it with the development of the multi-cultural society that the city has now become.  He explained his role as City Chaplain as well as giving an insight into some of the projects he has been involved with.  We wish him well as he takes up his new post of Priest in Charge of Osmotherley with East Harlsey and Ingleby Arncliffe and of the Hillside Group of Parishes in the Diocese of York.

In March we were entertained by the Very Rev'd Charles Taylor, Dean of Peterborough Cathedral who gave a captivating talk on the many purposes of a Cathedral.   Some thought provoking topics rounded off with good humour ~ have you heard the one about Aynuk, Ayli and the donkey outside Birmingham cathedral....?

January's Big Breakfast Bash was held at nearby Notcutts where we were treated to an entertaining and informative talk by the Rev'd Nick Devenish, Minister for the Hampton township.  He gave us a fascinating insight into  how he had been called to the ministry together with some humouress anecdotes about his journey through life.  We then tucked into a hearty breakfast enjoyed by all.
